Dr. Amy Acton on The Weeknight: “It Is Time For a Change in My State”

COLUMBUS, OH– On Tuesday, Dr. Amy Acton appeared on MS NOW’s The Weeknight to discuss her campaign for Ohio governor against self-funding billionaire Vivek Ramaswamy, who has “barely” campaigned in Ohio while globe-trotting on his private jet. Dr. Acton spoke about criss-crossing the state in her “used” Jeep Wrangler to talk to Ohioans about her plans to lower the cost of everyday life for working families and build a state where Ohioans can not just get by, but thrive.

  • “Look, I am a doctor. I’m not a politician, but I am a lifelong public servant. And I grew up in Youngstown, Ohio.”
  • “I’ve spent my entire career trying to solve the hardest problems that get in the way of us being able to have a good life, and I have driven my Jeep Wrangler, my used Wrangler, all over the state of Ohio.”
  • “For two and a half years I’ve gone places Dems have not been in a while and we’ve listened deeply.”
  • “95% of what you hear about, no one would disagree on, it is absolutely the cost of everyday life, from gas, groceries, to energy bills, childcare, housing, all of it.”
  • “I’ve worked with five different governors on both sides of the aisle. Most recently, Governor Mike DeWine, a Republican governor in Ohio.”
  • “This is the work of public service, and it is time for a change in my state.”
  • “I’m a scrappy kid from Youngstown, I am up for this fight.”
  • “I have an opponent who has spent over $88 million, Vivek Ramaswamy and some of the worst ads and campaign ever seen. It didn’t move the needle one inch, and now we’re inching out ahead.”
  • “…we got a lot of hard work to do. These Medicaid cuts coming, the things we’re dealing with in my state, you know, I’m trying to bring us back together again.”
  • “…we have been outspent 7 to 1 in lies and vitriol and inflammatory rhetoric.”
  • “My opponent is… a self-funding billionaire who has barely been in my state.”
  • “Instead of giving tax breaks to people at a million plus and his friends like Elon Musk and a guy sitting in Philadelphia right now who wants to end public schools as we know it, something that saved my life as a kid.”
  • “We have policies to give a working families tax cut, child tax credit. We’re alleviating medical debt, the largest cause of bankruptcy. We’re trying to work on childcare. We’re lowering energy bills. You know, we have real work to do in my state, and that’s what Ohioans are responding to.”
