Dr. Amy Acton Selects David Pepper as Lt. Governor Running Mate

COLUMBUS, OH – Today, Dr. Amy Acton announced David Pepper as her Lieutenant Governor running mate. David Pepper is a public servant, lawyer, and fifth-generation Cincinnatian who has spent his career serving the people of Ohio as a Cincinnati City Councilman, Hamilton County Commissioner and Chairman of the Ohio Democratic Party.

“I am proud to select David Pepper as my Lieutenant Governor. We both share a lifelong commitment to fighting for Ohio’s working families and making our state a more affordable place to live for all of us. David is an innovative and pragmatic leader who has been laser focused on delivering for Ohioans for his entire career, from reducing the property tax rate for Cincinnatians to tackling foreclosures during the 2008 recession,” said Amy Acton. “I am thrilled to have David by my side in the fight to lower costs, tackle corruption and special interests, and ensure that every Ohio family can thrive and enjoy the quality of life we all deserve.”

“I am honored and humbled to join Amy’s ticket and partner with her in the fight to deliver for Ohio’s working families. Amy is the only candidate in this race who will tackle our affordability crisis and work to lower costs, clean up the corruption, and invest to create world-class public schools, so we can finally put working families first, not billionaires or special interests,” said David Pepper. “While our opponent is flying around our state in his private jet and moving his business from Ohio to Texas, we’re working to tackle the affordability crisis and create an Ohio where we can all get ahead.”

Amy and David will appear together for the first time as a ticket at an affordability roundtable in the Columbus area on Wednesday afternoon.

David Pepper is a lifelong public servant, lawyer, and fifth-generation Cincinnatian who has spent his career serving the people of Ohio, fighting to put working families first and make our communities more affordable.

As a Hamilton County Commissioner and then as Commission President, Pepper worked across party lines to lead  the county’s fiscal turnaround, cutting spending by $60 million and shoring up the county’s financial health. Serving during the recession, Pepper put working families first, spearheading a foreclosure prevention program that averted thousands of foreclosures across the county, introduced a prescription drug discount program for county residents, led an earned income tax credit initiative that put millions of dollars in the pockets of working families, and held the line on property taxes, reducing the county’s rate outright in his final year. During his tenure, the county received numerous national awards for its cutting edge reforms and best practices.

As a member of Cincinnati City Council, Pepper was laser-focused on addressing the core issues holding the Cincinnati community and its families back – tackling public safety and police-community relations, economic development and job creation, and reducing the property tax rate every year he served.

As Chairman of the Ohio Democratic Party, he focused relentlessly on developing a new generation of public servants at the local level, while championing ballot initiatives to end gerrymandering which secured support from 70% of Ohioans twice. Pepper also led the effort to elect an independent Supreme Court in Ohio for the first time in a generation.

Pepper and his wife Alana live in Cincinnati with their two children, Jack (11) and Charlie (9).
