FACT CHECK: Latest Ramaswamy Ad Features Politically Motivated Doctor, Pushes Desperate Lie About Dr. Acton’s Career

COLUMBUS, OH— After Vivek and his allies spent over $84 million on attack ads, Ramaswamy’s campaign has released a new ad spreading lies about Dr. Amy Acton in a desperate attempt to trick voters and distract from his struggling campaign.

The ad features Dr. Alice Epitropoulos, who claims to be a local doctor. In reality, she is Vivek Ramaswamy’s direct neighbor and is politically involved. She appeared in a 2014 campaign ad for Governor John Kasich, which was panned for her status as a campaign donor and not a practitioner of women’s health. Dr. Epitropoulos has given $5,000 to the Ramaswamy campaign this year.

“Vivek Ramaswamy has spent his campaign spreading desperate lies about Dr. Acton, calling Ohioans ‘lazy’ and ‘mediocre,’ flying around in a private jet, and backing scam policy plans that would raise costs for Ohio families,” said Addie Bullock, spokeswoman for the Acton campaign. “Dr. Acton has dedicated her career to protecting Ohioans and, as governor, will ensure that every Ohioan is safe, protected, and able to thrive. Ohioans see through Ramaswamy’s desperate lies and know that Dr. Acton is the only choice for Ohio.”

CLAIM:FACT CHECK:
Amy Acton is a “career politician.” Dr. Amy Acton has never held elected office. She is a first time candidate who built a thirty year career as a doctor and a public health expert.
The Acton campaign’s claims against Ramaswamy are “false.” Ramaswamy’s campaign ads have been repeatedly fact checked as false, “dishonest” and used a citation that completely debunked its own claim.
The Ohio media says her claims are false. Reporting substantiated the claim that Ramaswamy hyped up a failed Alzheimer’s drug to investors, used his own mother to make the drug look more promising, and cashed out.
Vivek Ramaswamy is doing important work to create life saving medicines. Vivek’s ad claims he wants to create “new life saving medicines”, but he has a record of putting profit over everything else. Return on investment drove “just about everything in Ramaswamy-land.”     He stated that charging high prices for prescription drugs made us “better off in the end.” Ramaswamy’s FDA-approved drugs have outrageous and unaffordable sticker prices, including a $35,000 per month medication for an autoimmune disease.
Ohio’s doctors support Vivek Ramaswamy, not Dr. Acton. Acton received support from more than 1,000 doctors across Ohio rejecting OSMA’s endorsement of Ramaswamy. Dr. Acton has also been endorsed by the Ohio Nurses Association, a major healthcare union representing more than 10,000 nurses and health professionals. Dr. Acton has over three decades of medical experience, and has been a licensed physician since 1994.
