What Ohioans Are Saying: “Ohio Can’t Afford Ramaswamy”
COLUMBUS, OH– While billionaire Vivek Ramaswamy and his out-of-state billionaire allies like Elon Musk continue to pour millions of dollars into attack ads spewing blatant lies about Dr. Acton, Ohioans are calling out just how dangerous and out-of-touch he and his policies truly are. Ohioans know Dr. Acton is the only candidate dedicated to lowering costs and building a brighter future for Ohio families, not for out-of-state billionaires.
Cleveland.com: Why would any Ohioan vote for a self-serving billionaire who moved his firm to Texas?
- “Why would any Ohioan vote for Ramaswamy after he moved his company to Texas?” Why, indeed? Why would anyone expect someone who moved their company out of Ohio to serve the people of Ohio instead of the nation’s billionaire class? Also, why would anyone vote for a billionaire tech bro for governor?
- In fact, Ramaswamy has proposed a tax policy that clearly favors the ultra-wealthy (like himself). He wants to eliminate all state income tax and capital-gains taxes, a move that would disproportionately benefit millionaires. This would be just more of Republican trickle-down economics, which has been a disaster for non-wealthy Ohioans.
- It is not surprising that Ramaswamy’s campaign has turned to vicious, false attack ads on Amy Acton, a candidate who has demonstrated her love for Ohio and served the state well. (Just ask Ohio’s current governor.) Ramaswamy simply has nothing to offer ordinary Ohioans to improve their lives.
Columbus Dispatch: Ramaswamy doesn’t get Ohio
- Besides his strange fascination with data centers, Vivek Ramaswamy’s main policy proposal is a continuation of the relentless Republican shift of the tax burden away from millionaires onto everyone who works for a living.
- Gov. John Kasich began this shift by abolishing Ohio’s estate tax and lowering corporate taxes to near zero. Income taxes have been systematically cut in every legislative session, and Ramaswamy says he will eliminate them altogether.
- These cuts in the type of taxes that primarily affect the wealthy have been financed in two ways:
- Severe cuts in state services like public education and libraries, health care, rural hospitals, and first responders like firefighters and police.
- Increases in taxes paid primarily by working people like gasoline taxes, sales taxes and property taxes, all of which have been increased to levels that are unsustainable.
- After nearly 16 years of these ill-advised Republican policies, it is abundantly clear that Ohio can’t afford Ramaswamy.
Toledo Blade: Ramaswamy distorts the truth
- It’s shameful the way the Ramaswamy campaign for governor aided by cash from the occasional trillionaire Elon Musk have taken small statements fully out of context, then twisted them until what appears in their ads against Amy Acton totally distort any semblance of truth. With enough money and a few twisted facts, a good person’s reputation can be ruined. I long for the day when big money is out of politics and civil discourse based on facts and actual plans for how to solve our problems are the way we run campaigns. We’re a long way from that, but one can dream!
