Dr. Amy Acton Announces Support for 3-Year Moratorium on Wastewater Injection Wells in Washington County

MARIETTA, OH– Today, Ohio gubernatorial candidate Dr. Amy Acton released the following statement on fracking wastewater migration in Washington County:

“In Washington County, injection wells are leaking fracking wastewater, flooding conventional oil and gas wells, leaving folks without heat, destroying local businesses, and potentially contaminating Marietta’s drinking water. This poses a serious threat to the safety and quality of life of Washington County residents,” said Dr. Amy Acton. “That is why I support imposing a three-year moratorium on issuing additional permits for the drilling of wastewater injection wells and on the further injection of fracking wastewater in Washington County while the state conducts a thorough investigation on the impacts of wastewater migration. Ohioans deserve reliable heat, clean water, and to feel safe and secure in their community. I will always put the health and safety of Ohio families and communities above corporations and special interests.”
