FOR OHIO
Meet David
A LIFE OF SERVICE
David Pepper is a lifelong public servant, lawyer, and fifth-generation Cincinnatian who has spent his career serving the people of Ohio, fighting to put working families first and make our communities more affordable.
Delivering Results for Ohio Families
As a Hamilton County Commissioner and then as Commission President, Pepper worked across party lines to lead the county’s fiscal turnaround, cutting spending by $60 million and shoring up the county’s financial health.
Serving during the recession, Pepper put working families first, spearheading a foreclosure prevention program that averted thousands of foreclosures across the county, introduced a prescription drug discount program for county residents, led an earned income tax credit initiative that put millions of dollars in the pockets of working families, and held the line on property taxes, reducing the county’s rate outright in his final year. During his tenure, the county received numerous national awards for its cutting edge reforms and best practices.
Leading with Purpose
As a member of Cincinnati City Council, Pepper was laser-focused on addressing the core issues holding the Cincinnati community and its families back – tackling public safety and police-community relations, economic development and job creation, and reducing the property tax rate every year he served.
As Chairman of the Ohio Democratic Party, he focused relentlessly on developing a new generation of public servants at the local level, while championing ballot initiatives to end gerrymandering which secured support from 70% of Ohioans twice. Pepper also led the effort to elect an independent Supreme Court in Ohio for the first time in a generation.
Pepper and his wife Alana live in Cincinnati with their two children, Jack (11) and Charlie (9).
