ICYMI: Dr. Amy Acton joins Ohioans in Fremont, Vermilion, and Columbus on “My Promise for Ohio” Tour

COLUMBUS, OH– This week, Dr. Amy Acton joined Ohioans in Fremont, Vermilion, and Columbus on her “My Promise for Ohio” tour, where she visited small businesses and shared her plans to lower costs for working families, tackle corruption, promote economic growth, and make Ohio more affordable for everyone.

See coverage below:

On the Airwaves:

On WTVG:

Anchor: “One half of the Ohio gubernatorial race came to Sandusky County today.”

Anchor: “Doctor Amy Acton was in Fremont at a coffee shop on Front Street.”

Anchor: “We asked her about her plans to increase affordability. And she says she’ll propose things like an earned income tax credit, a child tax credit, and she says she’ll hit an issue lots of people have concerns about, property taxes, specifically for seniors.”

Dr. Amy Acton: “We’re working on lowering property taxes through an immediate homestead exemption I’ll be working on with the legislature. I’ve worked with people on both sides of the aisle my entire career, have worked with 5 different governors. So we are going to work immediately to lower the property taxes for folks so they can age in place.”

On WTOL:

Anchor: “Ohio gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton laid out her plan for economic growth and job creation during a visit to Northwest Ohio yesterday.”

Dr. Amy Acton: “We are absolutely open for business in this state but we’re not for sale and we are not to have our communities exploited. We’re working on lowering property taxes through an immediate homestead exemption I’ll be working on with the legislature.”

Anchor: “The Democrat sat down with small business owners during a campaign stop in Fremont where she discussed fighting for public schools, libraries, and healthcare.”

On WSYX:

Anchor: “Today Dr. Acton made a stop at B&K Smokehouse in East Columbus, a black owned business that’s been open for 14 years. The stop is a part of her ‘My Promise for Ohio tour,’ where she’s visiting small businesses to learn their struggles and share how she plans to promote economic growth.”

Anchor: “Dr. Acton says if she’s elected governor, she’s coming in day one with executive orders to support Ohioans.”

Anchor: “We’re starting with a working families tax cut. Instead of giving tax breaks to billionaires like my opponent and his friends, we’re going to put money immediately in people’s pockets through a child tax credit, one of the best ways to keep families afloat and keep children out of poverty.”

Anchor: “Dr. Acton has also been running her campaign on cleaning up corruption, improving Ohio’s education system, and building safer communities.”

On Spectrum News Columbus:

Anchor: “Amy Acton met with small business owners who described rising costs and trouble getting loans. She says she’s exploring smaller startup loans to help new businesses open.”

Dr. Amy Acton: “We’re working a lot on the minority business centers and different kinds of loan structures. We’re seeing a lot of the early entrepreneurs, they don’t qualify, you have to come in at a higher loan level, so we’re kind of getting smaller, micro almost loans and things built up so people can just get off the ground.

Anchor: “Acton says business owners would continue to help shape her policies if she wins.”

Chronicle-Telegram: Cost of living, support for small businesses at center of Acton campaign stop in Vermilion

  • Tracy Adkins sat next to Dr. Amy Acton, the Democratic candidate for Ohio governor, Tuesday morning at Hometown Bakery, and described the challenges she faces as a business owner.
  • “It’s getting hard,” said Adkins, the bakery’s co-owner, saying the bakery’s electricity bill recently doubled and pointed to a printout of utility bills.
  • She also pushed for the state government to enact stronger guardrails on rising costs of utilities, which could in turn aid residents and local business owners.
  • “That’s, I think, what all of us expect our government to do for us so that we can focus on living the American dream instead of managing two jobs and trying to raise a family,” Adkins said.
  • That financial pressure is something that residents throughout the state of Ohio face, Acton said.
  • “It shouldn’t be this hard, and that’s what I’m seeing everywhere I go,” Acton said as she spoke with Adkins. “People are working harder than ever, they’re doing everything right, but there’s no breathing room.”
  • She said she has plans to help working families with a tax cut and a child tax credit.
  • “We have a plan to lower electric bills and get our hands around the out-of-control data center situation that we are in,” Acton said. “We actually have plans for childcare and expansion of childcare and so many more things, but I am also focusing on small businesses. … They are actually the backbone of our economy, what makes a community really thrive.”

WTVG: Dr. Amy Acton talks affordability during Fremont visit

  • Part of the Ohio gubernatorial race came through northwest Ohio Tuesday. Democrat Amy Acton made a stop in Sandusky County.
  • Affordability was a big topic as she met with small business owners in a Fremont coffee shop. During a visit to Outpour Coffee, Acton was asked her plans on day one to make life more affordable.
  • “We’re walking in on day one with executive orders around wage theft, around the cost of corruption. We are putting immediately into place in our 100-day plan actions within our agencies. Our first budget is already underway. We are going to be giving working families a tax cut. That’s a breakthrough, an earned income tax credit above the federal. One of the programs I’m most excited about, a child tax credit. That is the quickest way to get families and children out of poverty,” said Acton.
  • “We’re working on lowering property taxes through an immediate homestead exemption. I’ll be working on with the legislature. I’ve worked with people on both sides of the aisle my entire career. I’ve worked with five different governors. So we are going to work immediately to lower the property taxes for folks so they can age in place,” said Dr. Acton.
  • “I can tell you, if our cars run on gas, this economy runs on diesel. Our farmers are struggling with the price of diesel right now and even small business owners are being often charged surcharges because of the fuel prices right now. So this is a real calamity. We have to do every single thing we can. I’m very glad to see that there was a bipartisan response to this, which the governor signed. But this is just one of many things,” said Acton.

Fremont News-Messenger: Rising fuel, health care costs burden Ohioans, Acton hears in Fremont

  • Ohio Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton talked about the costs of fuel, health care and energy when she stopped at Outpour Coffee for a roundtable with local businesses as part of her “My Promise for Ohio” Tour Oct. 13.
  • Acton also spoke with Sandusky County residents about their frustrations and needs from the state.
  • “I was the first to call for a gas tax holiday. That was because I was listening to Ohioans everywhere I go,” Acton said. “I was hearing stories, just like we heard today, of people who aren’t making trips for routine care, for things like exercising and for things like getting their health care, or going to a doctor’s appointment, because the cost of fueling up is so much.”
  • “We all know what it means for the cost of gas for our car, but I can tell you, if our cars run on gas, this economy runs on diesel. Our farmers are struggling with the price of diesel right now, and even small business owners are often being charged surcharges because of the fuel prices right now. So, this is a real calamity.”
  • Acton also linked higher energy prices to data center growth and their electricity use.

@AndrewJTobias: This morning, Amy Acton is stopping by the B&K Smoke House on Columbus’s near east side. The owner, James Howell says his costs have gone way up. “I use a special product, turkey ribs. That thing, they used to give that away. Now it’s $5.41 a pound.”
