Everywhere I go, Ohioans tell me they feel squeezed by high costs in every part of their lives.
Growing up without stable housing, reliable meals, or basic necessities, I understand what that’s like. Even today, my husband Eric and I still experience sticker shock when we shop for groceries or fill up the gas tank.
As Governor, I will fight to make life more affordable for everyday Ohioans so we can all have a little bit of breathing room. From housing, healthcare, and energy rates, to child care, drug prices, and property taxes, I will combat high prices with creative solutions, transparency, and working with both sides of the aisle. As Governor, I’ll go after companies that take advantage of hard-working Ohioans by price-gouging and provide relief to folks who feel overwhelmed.
For example, health costs are piling up in every direction. As Governor, I will use the power of the state to reduce prescription drug costs, crack down on higher costs due to pharmacy benefit managers, demand more transparency from hospitals and insurance companies to lower costs, reduce insurance premiums, stop surprise sky-high bills, and create partnerships to erase oppressive medical debt that is holding back–and often bankrupting so many Ohioans.
Energy bills are also spiking for too many Ohioans. New data centers are causing bills to increase, and as Governor, I will ensure that Ohio consumers and other ratepayers are not the ones shouldering these added costs. Housing costs, as well as the costs of food, property taxes, education, and other family costs like child-care and elder care are all increasing. Through smart public investments, creative solutions and transparency–and steps like free school lunch, an expanded child tax credit and expanding the homestead tax exemption–we can alleviate much of this burden.
I’ll go after companies that take advantage of hard-working Ohioans by price-gouging and provide relief to folks who feel overwhelmed. And we will crack down on wage theft, where employers profit through a variety of tactics and schemes that deprive Ohio workers of pay that they have earned through their hard work.
